EXP 1: SketchUp Model

3DWAREHOUSE link:

Louise Bourgeois Workspace

Stairs:

I did two types of stairs. The base of the stairs, where the clients walk don't change, but the railings and what supports the walkway does.

  1. Staircase with railway
  2. Hanging staircase
The staircases with railings are the main means to moving within her workshop, and also essentially define the different subspaces. The end of the staircases defines a new room.

The hanging staircase are the stairs connecting her workspace (Below ground level 1) and the showroom (Ground level). Unlike the stairs within her workspace, this one is outside of the workspace, signifying this sense of vulnerability as she heads towards the showroom. This is also represented in the change of railing, and what support the staircase. There is a lack of support whilst walking, unlike the railings of the staircases within her workshop.

 Four different spaces.

Staircase connecting ground level (show ground)
& level 1 (Issey Miyake's workspace). Texture above is 'organic'

Issey Miyake's staircase

I attempted to give these staircases a sculptural feel, similarly to Issey Miyake's works.

At the same time, I also wanted to give an organic feel to he stairs, hence applying a wood texture, and placing a curved wall above it with my texture "organic". I interpret his fashion to very natural, as they are very dynamic, and very much alive in terms of movement.

Staircase connecting level 1 and level 2 (both are his workspace) Textures: "Flexible"

Level 1. Texture on the wall is 'flexible'

Level 2. Texture on the wall is 'flexible'
